SPE Technical Conference Breakfast Keynote

Image
I had a fabulous time speaking to members of SPE (Society of Professional Engineers) at their kickoff Breakfast on September 28, 2015 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.. I presented my popular S.T.A.R.Qualities, a 30-minute presentation geared to boosting your personal effectiveness! Feedback from Alyssa, Event Coordinator: "Your presentation was great. I believe the  S.T.A.R  presentation was a good choice for the general audience, being that we had a wide variety of demographics attend the breakfast. Because this was the first day of the conference, the content was very appropriate for the encouraging “Welcome” we wanted to provide to our attendees. It was positive reinforcement for those who are or may soon encounter challenges in this current state of the oil and gas industry. You are a gifted, professional, and, most importantly, a relatable public speaker."

Heathy Body Tips

T aking care of ourselves is top priority, especially in today's crazy, fast, get it all done filled days. Exercise - Several months ago, my husband and I bought new bikes to ride around the neighborhood. We wanted bikes that are easy to handle and easy to ride. Get plenty of sleep - sleep gives your mind and body the opportunity to rest and recover from the day's activities and gets you ready for the next day. I get at least seven hours during the week....

Job interviews can be scary because you don't know what kinds of questions they will ask. However, you CAN be prepared for anything they 'throw' at you! Search the web; there are many lists out there by Human Resources departments that you can practice answering. Below are some tips I have developed to help you prepare to ace that next interview. 1) Attire  - a lot of people think that 'what you wear' shouldn't have any bearing on you getting a new job. Problem is, interviewers want you to prove just how important the position is to you.  ALWAYS dress professional - men in suits and ladies in professional dress or suit. Invest in a good pair of dress shoes (no open toe shoes or 'knee boots' for the ladies) If/when you are offered a position, you can ask about the 'dress code' for the company. 2) Know the Company - interviewers like when people ask them questions about the position AND the company. Search on the company on various sites to...
