BE KIND AND CONSIDERATE!

Image
Be on time (better yet, be early). Don’t make people wait on you for a meeting or social activity. Be there 15 minutes early and be ready. If it means you need to drive to a location the ‘day before’ to get your bearings, then do it. Show respect of other people’s time. Dress for Success – If you don’t think the way you dress makes a difference; think again! People may not tell you it makes an impact; but it does. If you are unsure of the ‘attire’ for a meeting or activity; ask or just ‘dress up’ to be sure. Confidence Makes a Difference – A confident person is an asset. Keep your EGO in check; you’ll have more meaningful relationships that are beneficial to you and others. Be Happy . Sometimes it is tough to be happy but it is the BEST way to keep your mental health in check. Making yourself SMILE really does make you feel better; try it! Keep your word . If you make a promise to someone; KEEP IT! If you cannot follow through; tell th...

MANNERS MATTER

Image
Good manners and proper etiquette are at the very core of how we communicate with one another,” says Denise Dinyon, Lenox gift-giving and etiquette expert. “We need to develop and reinforce those essential courtesies that make our relationships strong, valuable and long-lasting.” She offers the following etiquette tips, which are easy to incorporate into everyday life: 1. Turn the cell phone off. -- completely -- during a luncheon meeting, social function, or on public transportation. 2. Hold the door -- whether male or female, hold open a door you have just passed through for the person behind you. 3. Bring a gift for the hostess -- preferably one that doesn’t require her to drop everything she is doing. 4. Keep to the right -- on the sidewalk, in stairwells. 5. Say please and thank you -- to waiters, flight attendants, store clerks, cab drivers -- the little things go a long way. 6. Circulate at a party or social gathering -- whether hostess or guest, the people...

SPE Technical Conference Breakfast Keynote

Image
I had a fabulous time speaking to members of SPE (Society of Professional Engineers) at their kickoff Breakfast on September 28, 2015 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.. I presented my popular S.T.A.R.Qualities, a 30-minute presentation geared to boosting your personal effectiveness! Feedback from Alyssa, Event Coordinator: "Your presentation was great. I believe the  S.T.A.R  presentation was a good choice for the general audience, being that we had a wide variety of demographics attend the breakfast. Because this was the first day of the conference, the content was very appropriate for the encouraging “Welcome” we wanted to provide to our attendees. It was positive reinforcement for those who are or may soon encounter challenges in this current state of the oil and gas industry. You are a gifted, professional, and, most importantly, a relatable public speaker."

Heathy Body Tips

T aking care of ourselves is top priority, especially in today's crazy, fast, get it all done filled days. Below are three ways you life balance in check so that you are ready for all the challenges you face everyday in your personal, business and wherever life takes you! Exercise - Several months ago, my husband and I bought new bikes to ride around the neighborhood. We wanted bikes that are easy to handle and easy to ride. We didn't get cheap bikes, we searched for well made, sturdy and easy to ride bikes. We didn't realize just how much we enjoyed riding bikes. It's easy on the joints and a great workout for the legs and those muscles we use to 'hold ourselves up'. Be sure to find way to exercise that you enjoy because you will stay motivated. Get plenty of sleep - sleep gives your mind and body the opportunity to rest and recover from the day's activities and gets you ready for the next day. I get at least seven hours during the week....

Be on Top of your Game for Job Interviews!

Job interviews can be scary because you don't know what kinds of questions they will ask. However, you CAN be prepared for anything they 'throw' at you! Search the web; there are many lists out there by Human Resources departments that you can practice answering. Below are some tips I have developed to help you prepare to ace that next interview. 1) Attire  - a lot of people think that 'what you wear' shouldn't have any bearing on you getting a new job. Problem is, interviewers want you to prove just how important the position is to you.  ALWAYS dress professional - men in suits and ladies in professional dress or suit. Invest in a good pair of dress shoes (no open toe shoes or 'knee boots' for the ladies) If/when you are offered a position, you can ask about the 'dress code' for the company. 2) Know the Company - interviewers like when people ask them questions about the position AND the company. Search on the company on various sites to...
